Love our wines, but wonder what goes on behind the scenes at the Stobi winery in Macedonia? Here’s another of our occasional updates from our busy team:
“It’s beautifully sunny in Macedonia, as always, and our team is just back from a wonderful vacation period. We’ve been relaxing in our beautiful country and enjoying our many miles of sandy beaches – if you haven’t been here on holiday we highly recommend booking a flight now! While we had some time off the rest of our team has been at the vineyards, freeing up space for our next vintage. We’re on the eve of the harvest so space is a very important commodity – otherwise we’ll have nowhere to put thousands of tonnes of grapes! There’s always a slightly tense atmosphere before a harvest as so much is at stake, but we’re very happy to report that the condition of the grapes looks great and the weather continues to be perfect. We’ll start harvesting in the second half of August, wish us luck… As well as the practical work of preparing for the new vintage, the winemaking team also has a lot of paperwork that goes with the scientific preparation. We have to order our enological products, set up trials and record everything as we go along. An added pressure this year is that we have our BRC audit coming up in a few short weeks. We have applied for this qualification, which is a leading food safety standard used by over 18,000 businesses, to give customers all over the world the confidence that we abide by safe and hygienic production principles. We know that our production methods are more than up to scratch, but there’s always a certain amount of exam-day nerves before any assessment! When we next report we will hopefully have our new BRC certificate, as well as a full harvest. Until then enjoy your summer and do think about visiting our beautiful country soon!"
