Good news for retailers: according to a recent article by Victoria Moore for the Daily Telegraph, Britain is due to become the world’s second largest market for wine by 2018.
As she explains, quoting forecasting from industry experts Vinexpo: “in three years’ time, we are predicted to be spending more money on wine, a mammoth £11 billion a year, than any other country except the US.” Although this can be in part attributed to the fact that the UK pays more tax on wine than other countries, there is also the encouraging news that we also now opt for better value wines than we have in the past. The average we spend on a bottle has risen to above £5, and there is now a more open attitude to wine amongst the general public. “It has cut free its past associations with snobbishness, and we have laid to rest the nervous fear of Getting It Wrong and finally grasped the point that the joy of wine lies in adventure, stories, flavour”, says Victoria. For wine retailers, this is a great incentive to continue promoting the stories behind the wines you sell, and to highlight the uniqueness of every vineyard. Britons, the article notes, are eager to explore new viticultural territories and embrace new delights in wine, so opportunities abound to introduce your customers to the great new wines you discover. Wine retailers we've worked with have experienced great success in introducing their customers to Macedonian wines through the historical and cultural story of Stobi. If you'd like to discuss how Signature Wines can help you bring wines from the Eastern Mediterranean to your store then we'd be delighted to hear from you.
