Celebrities are Boosting the Popularity of Rosé - Stock up Now

Popular UK supermarket Sainsbury's has just released a new report entitled Rosé Uncorked, which suggests that people are now buying more rosé wine because of the celebrity connection.This trend is largely seen in younger people, perhaps because they are most likely to be influenced by celebrity culture.


With Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt and Drew Barrymore among those who are now producing their own pink wines, rosé has never looked more appealing to this demographic. “The rise in celebrity rose wines has sparked a trend among millenials for the aspirational ‘Posh Pink’ – often lighter and sometimes more expensive styles such as those from Provence,” Elizabeth Newman, Head of BWS at Sainsbury’s said. Given the amount of disposable income this generation have, coupled with the fact that Nectar card data shows that sales of rosé peak in July (last year by 12.4%), now is the perfect time to stock up on rosé to ensure you can make the most of the trend. Furthermore, a third of those surveyed by Sainsbury's stated that they would drink rosé wine all year round, suggesting that this market has great potential for retailers. For further proof of this, you only need to look at the fact that the supermarket sells around 15million bottles of rosé a year, accounting for around one in ten bottles of its wine! Yet it's also worth looking to the older generations: consumers over the age of 45 are still twice as likely to drink darker rosé than the lighter stuff being made popular by celebrities -so there's no sense in throwing out any bottles yet!
