We are also introducing the indigenous variety, Žilavka. Perfect for the start of summer this white wine is a delightfully fresh and spicy wine with flavours of lemon and white peach. MW Caroline Gilby says about the Žilavka in her recent article, “It is just one of the multitude of weird sounding grapes to be found in the Balkans, and one that deserves a much wider audience for its expressive aromas, good body and lively acidity.” Caroline outlines that “it seems to be a pretty old variety, as there are records for this grape dating back 600 years to the time of Bosnian King Tvrtko. The grape probably gets its name from the veins that are visible under the skin of the ripe berry, as Žila means vein.” A zesty wine with a rich heritage worthy of any wine cellar. If you want to add this Stobi white to your portfolio of Eastern Mediterranean wines then call Signature Wines on 0845 370 2255 or contact us here. We will leave the last words to Caroline, “If variety is the spice of life, then drink on – Žilavka is well worth adding to your wine experiences.”
