Signature Wines is delighted to have received such a good reaction to the Stobi Wine collection by wine buyers across the UK.
The Signature Wines team has attended numerous trade events in the last year including ERT (Emerging Regions Tasting) and SITT (Specialist Importers Trade Tasting). A member of the Signature Wines team commented “This range of wines from Macedonia really stands out, and most wine buyers are genuinely surprised to find such good quality from the Eastern Mediterranean region. They are always excited by the history and story behind the wine, which I think gives them something interesting and unique to tell their customers when presenting wines from this emerging region.” Three customers who have taken delivery of Stobi Wines were particularly impressed. Brett Dawson from Turton Wines has already placed a second order for the Vranec Classic red wine, which comes from the Balkans region. Brett commented “These wines stood out to us at SITT Manchester as the best in the room and there were a lot of wines!!"
"We love wines from unusual places and unusual grapes so these fitted in perfectly with our wine ethos. The Vranec stands out in particular as not only excellent, full bodied with lots of brambly fruit but it’s also great value for money at £9.95.“ Phil, pictured here, who works in the shop also said, “the wines are selling through very well.”
Vranec is an ancient variety indigenous to the East Mediterranean and the most important grape grown in Macedonia. The Stobi Vranec Classic is made using grapes from 20-25 year old vines and is aged for 14 months in Slavonian oak.
Oliver Tullet from North Coast Wine Co. who has also placed a repeat order said "Stonking wine big blackberry flavour and stunning with bbq!!" North Coast Wine Co. has taken the Vranec classic, Petit Verdot Barrique and Vranec Veritas Reserve. The Stobi Petit Verdot Barrique is 100% Petit Verdot and intensely purple in colour. These wines are aged for 18-20 months in French and American oak and the Vranec Veritas Reserve is made with grapes from 32-year-old vines. It benefits from a lower yield of 8t per hectare and is barrel-aged for 20 months in Slavonian oak. House of Townend Cellar Door have just taken delivery of Vranec classic and Petit Verdot Barrique which is currenlty on display in their in store tasting pod. They will also be listing the brand new white Zilavka which has just arrived into the UK.
John from House of Townend said “Macedonia is not the first country that comes to mind when buying a wine and often wines from the more obscure countries are listed simply to offer something different. That is not the case with the wines we have listed from Stobi. They take their place in our range purely on merit. Really well made wines, showing impressive concentration, structure and balance." Another variety indigenous to the Eastern Mediterranean is Žilavka. The grapes for the Stobi Žilavka come from 18-year-old vines and it has just landed in the UK for the first time. If you haven’t yet experienced the taste of Macedonia then please call Signature Wines now on 0845 370 2255 or contact us here and we will post you a copy of our brochure or can arrange for you to sample some wines.
