Signature Wines is delighted to announce that a new distribution agreement for the Scottish market has been confirmed with Wines Importers Scotland for Stobi’s range of quality Macedonian wines.
he range includes indigenous varieties from the Tikveš region including the popular Vranec and the newly launched Žilavka backed up by Syrah, Petit Verdot and Muscat Ottonel. The range also includes Stobi Cuvee, a blend of different indigenous varieties.
The Stobi range leads with the indigenous varieties and Billy Bell, managing director for Wine Importers, commented today, ‘We are constantly on the lookout for interesting wines with a difference that offer the same quality as all the wines on our list. On being introduced to Stobi I was immediately struck by the quality of the whole range, and the indigenous Vranec, in particular, offers something completely different for our customers.’ In addition, Wine Rack has also taken first delivery of the Stobi Vranec, pictured here on display in one of their stores. The Vranec Classic 2011 is made from the grapes of 20-25 year old vines and is aged in Slavonian oak barrels for 14 months.
The Stobi Winery was built in 2009 by its owner by winemaker Minco Jordanov – it represents the largest investment in a winery in Macedonia to date. All the grapes are sourced from the Stobi vineyards located around the winery. The image of the peacock, which appears on the label, was taken from the mosaics found amongst the Roman ruins within the ancient city of Stobi. The peacock represents the symbol of immortality and featured in early Christian paintings and mosaics throughout the region.
