‘Fantastic labelling’ was just one of many of the compliments overheard and mentioned to the Signature Wines team at the SITT exhibition yesterday.
Representing Macedonia’s Winery Stobi, the bottles feature the stunning image of a Peacock; a universal symbol of perfection, splendour and grace. The Peacock symbolism is a noble metaphor for the wines but also pays sentiment to a great Archaeological discovery of a Mosaic depicting a Peacock in the Ancient town of Stobi. The imagery on the bottles is displayed in exactly the same way as the Mosaic and is also featured proudly on the local currency.
The subtle incorporation of a Roman pillar into the letter T in the Winery name Stobi, is also of great significance imparting its historic introduction to wine making through the Roman occupancy of Macedonia 168BC. The name Stobi, is thought to loosely translate to mean pillar, which given the remains still visible today of the Ancient town, it is clear to see why it would have been named this. Encapsulating considerable heritage and meaning the labelling remains clear, bold and sophisticated with an appeal to the discerning retailer and consumer.
As anticipated the newly released Stobi Žilavka 2013, made an undisputed delightful impression on those tasting it – including competing Wineries who were lost for words! Indigenous to the Tikveš region, hand harvested and vinified in a leading £16mn technological infrastructure with acute attention to detail it has aromas of lemon, white peach and hints of spice. It is balanced, medium bodied with a long finish. As one retailer said, ‘I was looking for something different, new and of quality and this is it.’ We were also delighted that the Stobi Vranec 2011, described in The Independent newspaper as ‘a gem from Macedonia’ and indigenous to the region was also quickly acknowledged and given its due praise. Translated into Enlglish, Vranec means Black Stallion and is a great representation for the bold, intense and powerful taste of the wine. It benefits from quality vinification processes including remontage, delestage and micro oxygenation in steel tanks, MLF treatment and aging for 20months in Slavonian oak. Our heartfelt thanks to our new and consistent advocates of the Stobi brand visiting and tasting the wines at SITT. We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you again soon.
