The Tikveš Region

This region is famed in Macedonia, not to mention the rest of the world, for the grapes it produces.Located right in the heart of Macedonia, it’s on very similar latitudes to Bordeaux and Tuscany, which guarantees good growing weather.
There are beautifully warm, hot summers and mild wet winters, as well as gentle breezes channelled from the mountains that surround most of the region. There are nearly 12,000 hectares of vines in Tikveš, which is around a third of Macedonia’s total grape production. Amongst these vines over 20 different grapes are grown, including our favourites Vranec, Žilavka, and Muscat Ottonel. Amongst the wealth of vineyards lies Stobi, an ancient town and the most famous archaeological site in Macedonia. Against this vivid reminder of Macedonia’s long history, the expert winemakers at Stobi use the most modern equipment to create beautiful wines that blend both ancient tradition and modern knowledge. Take a sip of any of these gorgeous vintages and you’ll be tasting something very authentic: the spirit of a country distilled into vibrant liquid. If you want to stock Macedonian wines from the Tikveš, call UK wine wholesaler Signature Wines on 0845 370 2255 for details about the Stobi range of wines.
