Vranec Syrah Petit Verdot praised in Ham & High Publication

We are thrilled to see our Stobi Vranec and new Vranec Syrah Petit Verdot featured as ‘wine renaissance recommendations’ in the Hampstead & Highgate publication ‘Ham & High’.

The mention extolls this fruity new blend from the Macedonian winery located in the ancient city of Stobi, saying there is "more native grape renaissance in Stobi Vranec 2013 where one of Macedonian’s flagship reds – bold, powerful Vranec (the name translates to stallion) – is blended with Syrah and Petit Verdot to excellent, full-bodied, good-value effect. Wine has been made in this high Balkan region since Roman times.” Get to know the Black Stallion of Grapes The Stobi winery boasts 600 hectares of gentle slopes on 70% rendzina soil (rich containing limestone); with vines ranging from 5yrs to 40yrs all devoted to the Vranec grape which produces a quality red wine with a beautiful character that we believe is the taste of the Eastern Mediterranean. The deep dark berries are harvested by hand during September and October before being gently crushed and fermented to produce complex aromas of morello cherry, crushed blackberry, notes of roasted coffee and liquorice. An intense wine that is dry, full bodied with a velvety texture boasting an easy, rounded tannic structure and a long finish of cocoa and vanilla.
