We were very interested to read an article in the ever-fascinating Drinks Business about the growing popularity of rosé wines. Entitled ‘Rosé Revolution Gains Momentum’, the article highlights the ever-increasing popularity of rosé around the world. This growth is particularly fuelled by demand for higher end rosés: the article states, for example, that “a decade ago just 0.4 million litres of the wine was exported to the US, and now American consumers are guzzling 11.4 million litres of Provence pink a year.”
Popular UK supermarket Sainsbury's has just released a new report entitled Rosé Uncorked, which suggests that people are now buying more rosé wine because of the celebrity connection.This trend is largely seen in younger people, perhaps because they are most likely to be influenced by celebrity culture.
The stereotype is definitely dead: Rosé wine is now seen as much more than a drink to be dusted off and served on a hot summer’s day. It’s so popular, in fact, that one in eight bottles of wine bought in supermarkets is now Rosé .
